I have one from 1927, that I sew on all the time, and it's my only machine. I'm willing to bet with all her sewing and not mentioning the kids helping it was a treadle.

Sewing on these seems counter productive to everyone used to all the bells and whistles, and electricity, but when you're sewing and someone comes in, you don't have to stop...just slow down.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22364001.post-19461545459539023002007-02-26T21:48:00.000-05:002007-02-26T21:48:00.000-05:00Yes, grandma had a sewing machine, fortunately. Iron, mend, sew, clean, start again. No wonder she sounds down more often than up. "I cut out a pattern off of hers" not many of us could do this anymore. I have the impression that she did all of her sewing by hand - did she have a machine? I couldn't finish a house dress by hand in a week, let alone a day!Charley "Apple" Grabowskihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07193646109965731249noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22364001.post-47983783124762359792007-02-25T10:55:00.000-05:002007-02-25T10:55:00.000-05:00She always complained that when her mama came over...She always complained that when her mama came over she never got things done. I remember her mama (my grandmother) would come and sit in the little rocker (she was a small woman) and she always had horehound drops she would give us kids. I haven't had any horehound candy since she died & I don't remember what they tasted like, but they were definately different tasting. I guess I could go buy some & see if they bring back any memoriesAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
