Gilbert thought he had washing machine just about fixed as he had bought a new motor, but somehow it won’t go so we have to send for a service man after all.

  1. I wonder how much a service man cost back then? In this 'throw away world' sometimes it's cheaper to just buy new.

  2. The motor on our 17 year old washing machine went out a few months ago. I could not replace the washer we have for less than $1200 if I wanted all of the same features (and I do), so I paid $300 to have a new motor put in. And the washing machine is running as I type. The repair man said our machine was in such good condition that it made sense to get it fixed.
