The ground hog saw his shadow although it was cloudy most of the day.
(Has much changed in all these years? We still wonder if the ground hog saw his shadow on "Groundhog Day".)

My grandmother, Ruth Campbell Smith (1892 - 1972) kept a diary for many years. I am posting her entries from 1925 - 1927 in this blog. Her family included sons Dale (1916 - 2004), Dick (1918 - 1971), Albert (1920 - 1979), and Ned (1923 - 1976), and later daughters Marjorie (1925 - 2010) and Eleanor (1929 - 2011). Her husband was Gilbert (1889 - 1937) and they lived in Indianapolis. I hope you enjoy this glimpse of what it was like to be a housewife and mother in the 1920's.

No matter how cloudy the day, they always announce that the groundhog has seen his shadow. (Or at least it seems so!) Wonder if this year will be any different.
ReplyDeleteI think we will have 6 more weeks of winter simply because this is the 2nd of Feb. Spring rarely shows up till the middle of march
ReplyDeleteIt's now 2013, 87 years later, and this morning we heard that groundhog did NOT see his shadow, so spring will be early. Makes sense here in California as it has been sunny this winter and lately the temps have been in the 60s.
