Hot

Got up early feeling fine. Canned a few red plums which we had got to eat but didn’t like and made 3 glasses of jelly. Cleaned up the house a little and made me a dress of lavender striped with black and white – sport style.

(More canning and on a hot day. It must have really been hot in that kitchen.

I am having a hard time visualizing what a "sport style" dress looked like in the 1920's. I also can't believe she made it in one day.)

  1. How many of us would can fruit that we got to eat and didn't like? We'd just toss it on the compost. They didn't waste a thing, did they.

  2. Do you think that canning a fruit you don't like would change it's flavor so it taste better? Or maybe, in the middle of winter when fresh fruit is not as available, even something you don't like tastes good. We are so spoiled.

  3. I know she could easily make a dress in 1 day as I have done the same thing. A sports dress probably wouldn't have much trim to deal with

  4. She canned the plums, cleaned the house, AND made a dress all in one day!! Good grief - I doubt that any modern day woman could accomplish that much in one day - even with all our gadgetry. Amazing.

  5. It was very likely a shirtwaist with the 20s style dropped waist and boxy look.
