Rain

Gave Marjorie a bottle every nursing time after she finished nursing and she slept better and was just fine. I don’t want to give up nursing her but it seems my milk is not sufficient any more. She hasn’t gained a great deal so I have to feed her I guess. This was a rainy day and the boys didn’t know what to do with themselves.

(I have found in reading the diaries that the boys generally played outside year ‘round, regardless of the cold, but rain did keep them inside. )

  1. OK. This is a silly question, but what did they use for a nipple for the bottles back then? They didn't have plastics like they use today. Any ideas? Did she give her straight milk? Formaula? Did they have formula back then?

  2. Way back then in the olden days they used rubber for things they use plastics now, & bottles were made of real glass. The nipples were probably the kind that stretched over the mouth of the bottle. I'm thinking back to when I had baby dolls and the little bottles the dolls had.

  3. To answer some of the questions, I think they had rubber nipples that stretched over the top of the bottle. I think they used milk with corn syrup for the formula. I am guessing on both of these.
