Clear and Cold

A fine winter day. Cleaned quite a bit and hoped to get to sewing but that is as far as I get these days it seems – clean and hope to sew – but the sewing usually doesn’t get done. Marjorie kept me up till one again last night so didn’t feel any too peppy although I can’t complain. Dale was elected council member at school. Quite an honor. Our volume of Shakespeare complete and Omar came today. Marjorie wasn’t sleepy this evening till about one again.

(Aunt Marjorie wrote, "And many years later, if I remember correctly, Dale was again elected a council member, then vice mayor of Modesto, California."

Does anyone know who "Omar" is? I could not find anything on that or him, or whatever that book might be.

One thing that hasn't changed since the 1920's. people still have "hopes" to do something and can never seem to get to it. )

  1. Since they read classics, didn't Ruth mean she received a copy of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam?

  3. My impression of Uncle Dale (the 2 or 3 times in my life that I met him) was of someone who was a perfectionist, did everything well, and expected the same of everyone else. (quite an intimidating man!) I know he was an extremely hard worker. After he graduated college and returned from the war, he and his wife came back to Indy and worked until he had all of Grandma's bills paid off before relocating to California where his wife was raised. I believe that up until he died he was still going into his office 2-3 days per week (when he wasn't traveling around the world) The interesting thing is, that as an old man, Dale looked almost exactly like his mother did when she was old. In pictures, I actually confused Dale for Ruth once(in front of him which was quite embarrasing!)

  4. Dale was definately a leader, which showed throughout his life. No matter what he became involved with, he ended up on top

  5. Omar is probably Omar Kahyyam, author of the Rubiyat. http://www2.enel.ucalgary.ca/People/far/hobbies/iran/khayyam.html

  6. Thanks for the help on who Omar was. I'll have to look up this author because it is one I am not familiar with.

  7. This was an amusing entry when I read the comments. My husband and I drove to Modesto today to check out a new store there that will be opening also in Fresno later this year. Modesto is a very nice community, about 90 minutes north of Fresno, in the very middle of California.
